LAS VEGAS, November 2, 2004
Akebono Brake Corporation (ACNA), a global leader in advanced brake and friction material development and production, today announced the introduction of a severe duty line of disc brake pads for fleets and commercial applications.
Akebono Severe Duty disc brake pads are specifically designed to survive and excel in the extreme operating environment found in fleet applications. These advanced severe duty brake pads lower fleet operating costs per mile and improve vehicle safety and control.
“Police, taxi, municipal and federal government fleets, commercial, limousine and other fleet operators are constantly searching for repair and maintenance alternatives that will perform as expected, extend service intervals and reduce costs and downtime,” said Randy Mordue, director of aftermarket sales and marketing. “Akebono Severe Duty disc brake pads give these customers a rotor-friendly, ceramic-based brake pad with improved stopping power and extended service intervals.
Akebono Severe Duty disc brake pads, featuring Akebono Ceramic Technology™, generate lower operating temperatures, are rotor-friendly and eliminate pedal pulsation extending the life of brake system components. The new severe duty disc brake pads have an extended post-curing process eliminating the need for time consuming break-in procedures and are 100 percent shimmed, slotted and chamfered for further noise abatement. The resulting brake pad design offers extreme durability and delivers definitive Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) and Disc Thickness Variation DTV) control – significantly lowering cumulative brake service cost and increasing fleet operator satisfaction.
Akebono Severe Duty disc brake pads are coated with OE-type black powder-coat paint for corrosion resistance and will be skin-packed for a high-end, professional appeal. Marketing support will be provided through four-color packaging, brochures and a catalog.
Target distribution for the new Akebono Severe Duty line includes, fleet-focused warehouses, wheel and tire distributors and traditional aftermarket distributors. Available beginning the first quarter of 2005, Akebono Severe Duty will initially offer approximately 70 part numbers.
Akebono Severe Duty ceramic-based disc brake pads will be on display in the Akebono booth at the AAPEX Show, Las Vegas Convention Center, Nov. 2 – 5, 2004. (AAPEX BOOTH #471)
