LAS VEGAS, November 2, 2004
Akebono Brake Corporation (ACNA), a global leader in advanced brake and friction material development and production, today announced the introduction of a street performance line of disc brake pads for sport compact and street tuner applications.
“The sport compact and tuner market offered us a unique challenge,” said Randy Mordue, director of aftermarket sales and marketing. “We had to develop a product that controlled brake dust and provided aggressive braking while being easy on expensive drilled and slotted rotors. That’s really three products.”
Akebono Street Performance disc brake pads, featuring Akebono Ceramic Technology™, are the only ceramic-based street performance brake pads specifically designed to control noise vibration and harshness (NVH) and disc thickness variation (DTV) while providing aggressive stopping and reduced brake dusting.
Akebono Street Performance disc brake pads are designed to compete on the track, on the street and at the show. Targeted to Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) racers, street performance enthusiasts and tuners, Akebono Street Performance disc brake pads are a definitive upgrade to OE brake pads and perform well beyond competing street performance brands. Akebono Street Performance disc brake pads generate lower operating temperatures, promote improved vehicle control and extend the life of brake system components, while giving the driver a confidence-inspiring pedal feel.
“Akebono Street Performance disc brake pads also protect the enthusiast’s investment by delivering faster, quieter, controlled stops while keeping wheels shiny and clean – a unique accomplishment with today’s myriad of chrome open wheel designs,” added Mordue.
Akebono Street Performance disc brake pads are 100 percent shimmed, chamfered and slotted to further enhance NVH control. They will be powder-coated with high-impact color paint for corrosion resistance and enthusiast appeal. Marketing support will be provided through four-color packaging, brochures and decals.
Target distribution for the new Akebono Street Performance is specialty performance warehouses, specialty wheel and tire distributors, Web-based and catalog-driven performance distributors and traditional aftermarket distributors. Available the first quarter of 2005, Akebono Street Performance will initially offer over 50 part numbers.
Akebono Street Performance ceramic-based disc brake pads will be on display in the Akebono booth at the AAPEX Show, Las Vegas Convention Center, Nov. 2 – 5, 2004. (AAPEX BOOTH #471)
