AKEBONO INTRODUCES EURO™ BRAKE PADS FEATURING ADVANCED CERAMIC TECHNOLOGY

LAS VEGAS, November 2, 2004

Akebono Brake Corporation (ACNA), a global leader in advanced brake and friction material development and production, today announced the introduction of its EURO™ line of disc brake pads for European sedan and sport utility vehicle (SUV) owners.

Akebono EURO ceramic disc brake pads feature advanced ceramic friction material technology perfected by Akebono. Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) who have approved the Akebono European technology include Audi, Mercedes Benz, and Volkswagen. These pads are an ultra-premium upgrade to OEM-supplied brake pads and are engineered for drivers who want to maintain European pedal feel and improve vehicle control while minimizing the dark and difficult to remove brake dust.

The new EURO line will deliver improved stopping power combined with unprecedented Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) control, extended pad and rotor life and noticeable reduction of brake dust on today’s open wheel designs.

Based on formulations developed in Akebono’s OE European facility, Akebono EURO disc brake pads will deliver improved stopping power and include OE-type electronic wear sensors, where applicable. The resulting design eliminates pedal pulsation, delivers definitive NVH control and extends the pad and rotor life – significantly lowering cumulative brake service cost.

Additionally, Akebono EURO disc brake pads also feature an OE-type black powdered paint coating for corrosion resistance and will be skin-packed for a high-end, professional appearance. Marketing support will be provided through four-color packaging, brochures and catalogs.

“The EURO line represents our continuing effort to deliver technologically superior products to our customers that will allow them to enhance profits and deliver unprecedented customer satisfaction,” said Randy Mordue, Director of Aftermarket Sales and Marketing.

Target distribution for the new Akebono EURO line includes import specialist warehouse distributors, specialty wheel and tire distributors, Web-based and catalog-driven distributors and traditional aftermarket distributors. Available in 2005, the Akebono EURO line will initially offer approximately 80 part numbers.

Akebono EURO ceramic-based disc brake pads will be on display in the Akebono booth at the AAPEX Show, Las Vegas Convention Center, Nov. 2 – 5, 2004. (AAPEX BOOTH #471)
